A Video Measuring System (VMS) — also known as a Video Measuring Machine (VMM), Image Measuring System, or Optical Vision Measuring System — is a high-precision, non-contact metrology instrument that uses digital cameras, advanced optics, precision motion control, and computer vision software to automatically measure 2D, 2.5D, and 3D geometric dimensions, contours, and tolerances of manufactured parts. It is the modern, digital evolution of the traditional optical comparator (contour projector).
