The working principle of the instrument is to measure the time required for 100 ml or 50 ml of water to flow through a paper sample with a diameter of 35.7 mm (area of 10 cm² ) under a pressure difference of 1 kPa (i.e., 100 mm water column) between the two sides of the paper sample . The time is expressed in seconds.
